Winter Concert 2021

Winter Concert 2021

On Sunday, December 12, 2021 the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus recorded its first performance since 2019. This incredible group of 20 devoted singers arrived at Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm, ready to record after just two in-person rehearsals, about 4 hours of live practice.

They arrived on site equipped with tea, propane heaters, hand warmers, coats, scarves and holiday spirit like you wouldn’t believe. in the pouring rain, frogs chirping in the background, was one of the most joy filled, energizing experiences I’ve ever had as a choral director. – Marisa Troppy, Artistic Director

A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein
Happy 100th Birthday to An American Icon

The Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus, celebrating 80 Years of Singing, announces its Fall 2018 Concert, “Happy 100th Birthday to Leonard Bernstein – A Tribute to An American Icon”.  We sang enjoy wonderful choral music from “Chichester Psalms”, “West Side Story”, and other Bernstein favorites. Plus Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of Living” and “Long Time Ago”. and more…

The Chichester Psalms were created by Bernstein between 1963 and 1965 as a project for the Dean of the Cathedral of Chichester in Sussex, England.  Read the whole story by clicking here.

West Side Story is a musical first produced on Broadway in New York with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book Arthur Laurents. It was inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet.

The story is set in the Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City in the mid-1950s, an ethnic, blue-collar neighborhood (in the early 1960s, much of the neighborhood was cleared in an urban renewal project for Lincoln Center, which changed the neighborhood’s character). The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.

We sang a fantastic medley of popular songs, such as Tonight, America, I Feel Pretty, and Cool.
